Grading Policies
Your grade will be determined from your knowledge of the learning targets being discussed. A copy of the learning targets will be handed out at the beginning of each unit and are posted on the back wall. You will have multiple opportunities to demonstrate your knowledge of each learning target and that will determine your grade.
Practice Problems
Practice problems will be assigned most days. These problems will be your opportunity to practice the concepts we talk about in class. You will be given opportunities to ask questions about the practice problems during class or before/after school.
Algebra I and Integrated Math I have the opportunity to be awarded 5 points per assignment for practice problems. Assignments will be collected on the day they are due and will typically be handed back the next school day. If you turn in your assignment on the day it is due, you will have the opportunity to redo the incorrect problems, after they are handed back, to earn points back (work does need to be shown, no work means no credit). However, if your assignment was not turned in on time, you lose out on the opportunity to earn points back on that assignment. Late assignments can be turned in up until the end of each quarter.
Advanced Math and AP-Calculus will not be given a score for the completion of their practice problems, however it is in your best interest to complete these problems in preparation for the weekly quizzes, prior knowledge needed for AP-Calculus, and in anticipation of the AP Exam in early May.
Quizzes
Quizzes will occur every Friday (or last school day of the week) and will consist of each learning target covered throughout the week. Each learning target will be seen on the quizzes three times and each time it is your opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of the mathematical skills taught in those learning targets. You will receive a score out of ten points for each learning target (rubric below) and your most recent quiz score will replace the previous week’s quiz score in the gradebook. Since the quizzes will be spiraled you will have multiple opportunities to assess on each learning target, therefore reassessment on individual quizzes is not an option.

*BONUS OPPORTUNITY*
*If you score 10/10 on the first two quiz opportunities of a learning target, you have the option to opt out of assessing on the third opportunity. It is your responsibility to check your previous scores to see if this bonus applies to you. If you opt out without 10/10’s on the first two quiz opportunities, you will receive a 0/10 for that learning target. Keep accurate records!*
Projects
Projects will occur at the end of each unit as a final assessment in Integrated Math I, Algebra I, and Advanced Math. The projects will be your opportunity to apply the mathematical skills taught in the units. They will consist of various learning targets within the unit and each project will be scored out of 20 points. Rubrics for each project will be handed out when the project is assigned. Handed in projects are the final product, no redo’s will be allowed after it is graded, be sure to read the rubric carefully and double check your work.
*AP-Calculus: Various projects will be assigned throughout the year and will be scored out of 20 points. At the end of each unit, students will be assessed on their skills in each of the categories: expressions and functions, visual representations, conjecture and conclusion through reasoning, and models and structures. These assessments will be graded on your level of knowledge; beginning (D), developing (C), proficient (B), and advanced (A) in each of the four categories. Your score on the assessment (20 points) will be based on your proficiency level. These assessments will need to be completed within the class period so be prepared. Retakes will be available for these assessments, however, in order to reassess all of the homework assignments for the unit need to be complete and you will need to show progress of learning for the category you wish to reassess in.
