BUCKET FILLERS
The idea of Bucket Fillers is based on the book "Have You Filled A Bucket Today? (A Guide to Daily Happiness For Kids)" and "Fill a bucket; A Guide to Daily Happiness for Young Children" by Carol McCloud. We also read the book "How Full Is Your Bucket For Kids" by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer.
In these books we learned that we all have an invisible bucket that contains our feelings. The bucket holds good thoughts and good feelings. When our bucket is full, we feel happy. When our bucket is empty, we feel sad.
A bucket filler is someone who says or does nice things for other people. By doing this, they are filling other people's buckets and filling their own bucket at the same time. Filling a bucket is as easy as using good manners, smiling and waving at someone, or sharing toys when playing. On the other hand, a bucket dipper says or does things to cause other people to feel bad. A bucket dipper empties buckets when they say and do mean things.
In our classroom, each student has a bucket on our Bucket Filler bulletin board. When a child is being a bucket filler by using good manners, doing nice things, or saying nice things to others, they will be asked to fill a bucket by placing a pom pom in their classmate's bucket as well as their own. We will check our buckets once a week and review what bucket filling behavior looks like and sounds like. To read more check out the bucket filler website: www.bucketfillers101.com
