All GCE students participate in our comprehensive school counseling program through classroom guidance lessons. Small groups are also a component of this program. Small groups help reinforce curriculum and address needs in a positive manner such as: New student transition, friendship skills, understanding/regulating feelings, appropriate behavior, personal control, social skills, family change, communication, grief or stress management. Many students will participate in small groups each year. Each group typically consists of several students and meets once a week over the course of 4-6 weeks. We do many different activities to focus on feelings and skill development such as: Discussion, reading books, skill games or peer interactions. Small group participants are identified by teachers, Administration, Mrs. Gretzlock, parents and/or students themselves. Student participation in small groups is voluntary and they typically find them very enjoyable. Families of small group participants will be notified by letter sent home with students. Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Gretzlock with any questions!
