Qualifications Associate degree or equivalent certified experience with an emphasis in engineering, construction management, facilities management, or a similar field, bachelor’s degree preferred but not required Background and training in custodial, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing areas Working knowledge of building codes Ability to read blueprints Supervisory experience Quality computer skills and knowledge of office equipment Ability to plan, organize and carry out comprehensive short and long-range projects Ability to prepare written evaluations of maintenance and custodial staff Ability to work with a variety of people in a positive and productive manner Demonstrated knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures
Supervision Coordinate activities to ensure the maximum efficiency in work schedules Make recommendations and prioritize required work Act as overall supervisor of maintenance and custodial personnel, and shall supervise staff in coordination with district administrator Coordinate recruitment, employment, assignment and has overall supervisory responsibility for custodial and maintenance employees Responsible for calling in substitutes for custodial staff
Maintenance Act as a consultant to the administration on service systems, repairs, alterations and related problems Investigate mechanical, electrical, and structural failures of buildings and equipment, assess needed repairs and replacement parts, and determine and/or implement appropriate action necessary Keep records and make reports as requested by the director of fiscal and building operations Maintain a system for the inspection of buildings and grounds to keep them in safe condition Consult with administration as necessary to move furniture and equipment to meet building use needs Assist in developing and implementing a preventive maintenance program Inspect, supervise, and monitor the work of outside contractors and district maintenance staff to ensure that the work performed meets specifications and quality standards Work with all City and State Inspection Departments to ensure that work performed in the district meets all applicable costs Develop and manage district energy conservation programs including monitoring the energy usage of facilities, compiling energy use data, preparing required reports and devising programs to increase the energy efficiency of the district's buildings Review on a regular basis all security systems and precautions and recommend additions or changes in service as appropriate Keep administration informed of maintenance and cleaning programs and recommend new/improved programs and procedures which will improve building and ground maintenance service Responsible for monitoring weather conditions and calling maintenance and custodial staff for snow removal as needed
Safety Manage all district safety programs Conduct/coordinate all staff training relating to safety program requirements including employee right to know and others Serve as liaison to the district environmental safety consultant Implement and monitor all State and Federal facilities--related regulatory requirements including those of the EPS, OSHA, the State Fire Marshal, and the State of Wisconsin Conduct safety checks of district facilities with the district administrator in cooperation with insurance carriers and regulatory agencies and maintain all related records Ensure compliance with all programs relating to facility accessibility including A.D.A. and Section 504 Maintain all records relating to safety, facilities, and energy programs
Training In cooperation with the administration, schedule and be responsible for custodial staff training and instruction related to efficient production and the latest work methods
Financial Maintain a system of requisitions and materials purchased Assist in cost studies that may be requested by the board of education and/or district administrator Develop and administer the annual capital expenditure budget in cooperation with the district administrator Maintain a coordinated inventory control program for all areas of the department
Planning Develop long-range schedules for major repairs to facilities including the required five-year capital facilities plan in cooperation with the district administrator Work in conjunction with district architects and consultants to develop specifications for district building and construction projects Conduct a continuing analysis of maintenance and custodial systems and procedures under the direction of the district administrator Review and approve timecards for maintenance and custodial staff Coordinate vacation schedules for custodial and maintenance staff
Other Maintain appropriate positive communication and relations with parents, students, district staff, and others Maintain appropriate professional courtesy, dependability, and credibility Perform other duties assigned by the director of fiscal and building operations as the need arises
Physical Requirements: This work regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing and occasionally requires pushing, pulling, lifting, and operating machines; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. school offices/classrooms/passageways).

Requirements Candidates must currently hold a Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements or be able to obtain within 6 months
Responsibilities: Comprehensive ongoing maintenance for all fleet vehicles including grounds equipment 11 school buses 9 district vehicles Trailers, Bobcat, Mowers, UTV, and Loader Tractor Maintenance of transportation facilities Inspect, diagnose, and repair school buses, district vehicles, and equipment in compliance with state and federal safety standards
Perform preventive maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and tire service Conduct routine safety checks (brakes, steering, suspension, lighting, exhaust, etc.) to ensure vehicles are safe and reliable Maintain accurate service records for all vehicles to meet state inspection and reporting requirements. Prepare buses for annual state inspections and promptly correct any deficiencies Respond to vehicle breakdowns, either on-site or on the road, to ensure minimal disruption to student transportation Troubleshoot and repair emergency mechanical or electrical failures
Safety and Compliance Ensure all work meets DOT, OSHA, and state Department of Public Instruction requirements Keep vehicles compliant with emissions and safety regulations Maintain shop tools and equipment in safe working condition
Collaboration and Support Work closely with transportation supervisor, drivers, and other staff to schedule repairs and preventive maintenance Train drivers on pre-trip inspections and reporting mechanical concerns Communicate clearly with administrators regarding vehicle readiness and repair needs
Recordkeeping and Inventory Track parts, tools, and supplies needed for maintenance and repairs Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment Assist with budgeting for fleet maintenance and replacement planning
Additional Responsibilities Operate district vehicles when needed (test drives, emergency transport, fueling) Assist with snow removal equipment, lawn care machinery, and other grounds/maintenance equipment as required Support buildings and grounds staff when not actively repairing vehicles
Physical and Special Demands: Mental alertness, neat personal appearance, good health, cooperativeness and dependability. Must have sufficient dexterity to handle all job equipment efficiently and safely. Must have sufficient strength and fitness necessary to perform mechanical maintenance. Must be able to exercise judgement and initiative in maintaining efficient standards of job responsibilities.
Ability to work cooperatively with others. A mechanical aptitude is necessary. Must complete given tasks; perform responsibilities in an organized and efficient manner; resolve problems in a positive manner; and be willing to assist others with special tasks when requested to do so by the supervisor.
