Math Expressions
Math Expressions is the elementary math curriculum for grades K-5. Supplemental and alternative math curriculums are implemented based on individual needs to teach the skills taught in grades third through fifth grade. Some of the possible supplemental and alternative math curriculums are Saxon Math and Abeka Arithmetic. I also use Math Expressions within my classroom with some students at their grade level and their ability level.
Saxon Math
Saxon Math is an alternative math curriculum that is taught within my classroom to various students. This curriculum works on repeating of concepts daily to build on new concepts introduced. Saxon Math has an emphasis on teaching skills through hands on activites. Beginning concepts are addition, subtraction, money, measuring, calendar, shapes, fractions and many more. Students work on a guided lesson within the classroom and many times a homework sheet is sent home nightly to practice.
A Beka Arithmetic
A Beka Arithmetic is another alternative math curriculum that is taught within my classroom to various students. This curriculum also works on repeating of concepts daily to build on new concepts introduced. This curriculum has an emphasis on teaching skills through visual clues and prompts. Beginning concepts are addition, subtraction, money, measuring, calendar, shapes, fractions and many more. Students work on a guided lesson within the classroom and many times a homework sheet is sent home nightly to practice.
