In English III we explore five different areas of study that are essential to a successful high school graduate: Writing, Reading Literature, Reading Informational Texts, Speaking (and Listening), and Language skills. We will read at least four novels in class that focus directly on American literature (The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Great Gatsby, Slaughterhouse Five, and Into the Wild). We will also be reading a variety of short stories and some more everyday pieces as well. We write throughout the year and this will lead to some polishing and improvement of your skills in a variety of ways. Finally, we will be using the writing process to generate high level analysis and persuasive arguments. The year will end with modern literature and some self-directed research as well.
