Dear Glenwood City Students, Staff, Parents, and Community,
Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent GCSD Community Survey. We are grateful that 312 residents, parents, staff members, and community stakeholders took the time to share their perspectives, concerns, and hopes for the future of the School District of Glenwood City. Your feedback provides valuable guidance as we continue our work to strengthen our schools and serve our community.
The survey results reflect both pride in our District and a clear desire for continued improvement. Respondents consistently identified our caring staff, strong student support systems, small-school environment, and community connections as significant strengths. Many also recognized recent efforts to improve communication, transparency, and accountability.
At the same time, participants shared important concerns that deserve our attention. Several common themes emerged throughout the survey:
- A desire for increased transparency and communication regarding District finances, planning, and decision-making.
- Concerns about financial oversight and accountability following past challenges.
- Questions about the affordability of future referendum proposals and the impact on taxpayers.
- A strong interest in maintaining academic quality, student opportunities, and essential facility improvements.
- The need to continue building trust through consistent engagement with families, taxpayers, staff, and community members
The survey also provided insight into potential referendum questions. While support varied among different stakeholder groups, respondents indicated that any future proposal would require clear communication regarding costs, priorities, accountability measures, and the direct benefits to students and the community.
We hear these messages clearly. As a District, we remain committed to:
- Protecting and enhancing educational opportunities for all students.
- Managing resources responsibly and transparently.
- Addressing critical facility and infrastructure needs.
- Strengthening communication with all stakeholders.
- Continuing to rebuild trust through accountability and openness.
The survey is one step in an ongoing conversation. Over the coming months, District leaders and the Board of Education will use this feedback to guide planning and decision-making. We will continue to share information, seek community input, and provide opportunities for residents to ask questions and stay informed.
Thank you again for your participation, your honesty, and your commitment to the future of the School District of Glenwood City. Together, we can build on our strengths, address our challenges, and ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Respectfully,
Patrick B. Olson
District Administrator
